Satoshi History

Throughout the Ages

Satoshi in Japanese means "Clear Intelligent Thinking". In order to have create the strongest, sharpest blades possible you need to be able to focus on 'the blade'. In 1185 Japan started to be governed by the warriors, or the "Samurai", these warriors were not only incredible fighters but they were also intelligent, loyal comrades. They were feared fighters all over the world with the best, sharpest swords in the world at that time, and possibly still, even today. They ruled for centuries up until around 1868 where some form of military warrior leadership still held control over the government in Japan.

Minamota Clan/Family

Over these centuries some Samarai families continued to create some of the finest blades in the world. One such family was the Minamoto family who were the first ruling clan in Japans Samarai era until weakoned by the Great Mongol invasion of 1274. Even after the invasion and the subsequent weakoning of the Minamoto clan they continued to work in the shadows, creating some of the greatest blades in history. Most notably, Minamoto Satoshi, a master Katana producer even produced some of the Katanas used for the Tokugawa government in the mid 1800's. Satoshi was able to hone in on all his previous ancestors techniques to produce the sharpest, strongest and most refined blades known to man. Its said his techniques are what some producers still use today but frustratingly are not able to recreate as Satoshi and his understudies have kept their sword and knife making techniques a secret to this day. As in order to have the best blades in the world the technique must never be compromised. Satoshi only used machine toning on the metal itself, but sharpening must be done on an individual level, in order to produce the perfect blade, everytime. This is now know as the Satoshi method.

Some of the many weapons forged by the Minamoto Clan

During the era of Samarai, Satoshi not only made swords and other weapons but also made cooking knives for the aristocrats of Edo (now known as Tokyo). Today only some of the most extremely skilled craftsmen from the Minamoto family bloodline are able to recreate knives using the Satoshi method, from centuries of knife producing the Satoshi method can now finally be used by home cooks and professional chefs. Knives have come a long way since the start of the Samarai Dynasty to the modern domestic kitchen, but thanks to Satoshi, amateur and professional chefs can now enjoy Satoshi knives crafted by master knife makers using the Satoshi method. Satoshi's teaching skills to be able to pass this method on through the bloodline up until now is truly a remarkable feat. Each knife that is created continues this tradition.
